Vintage Brass Inkwell, 2 Removable Wells

The earliest forms of inkwells date back to the times of Ancient Egypt, where wealthy families hired writers called scribes to write their missives for them. They were made of stones that had holes to hold the ink. Many elaborate inkwells can be found from European origins from the 16th century forward. They were made out of porcelain, silver, pewter, brass and other metals. 

This gorgeous inkwell, made of brass, has an ornate victorian design. The inkwells themselves are hinged and can be removed for easy cleaning. There is a tray slot that held the pen or "quill". This is an impressive piece. Great to add to a collection, display on a desk or give as a gift with customized stationary. Great vintage condition. This is the unpolished look but can be polished for a lovely shine. Collectors often like items in their unpolished state.
